World Hunger Prevention

Despite its status as one of the wealthiest nations globally, the United States grapples with a significant issue of food insecurity, where many individuals lack consistent access to an adequate supply of food for a healthy and active life. According to Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the USA, approximately 42 million Americans, among them 13 million children, face the daily challenge of hunger.

Food pantries play a vital role in combatting food insecurity by offering free or affordable food to individuals and families in need. Many individuals depend on these pantries to supplement their monthly grocery expenses, especially during times of financial hardship or crises. Typically, these pantries are operated by non-profit organizations, churches, or community groups, and they rely on public donations of food and funds to continue their operations.

In summary, while various efforts are being made to tackle the issue of food insecurity in the United States, food pantries remain a crucial resource for those who require assistance.

PASWO has been at the forefront of the Hunger Prevention Program since 2005, serving people across the country. Guided by the directive to provide nourishment to those in need as ordained by Allah (SWT), PASWO has established essential public food assistance initiatives to increase awareness of the widespread issue of hunger in the nation.

Over the past two years, PASWO has been dedicated to collaborating with the USDA, Congress, and prominent food bank networks throughout the country. Our focus has been on offering guidance and expertise to enhance the availability of halal food choices within the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Our overarching objective is to increase the variety of halal protein options within the program.

The program utilizes initiatives such as Ramadan Food Boxes, the Iftar Distribution Program, Udhiya / Qurbani meat distribution, and Mercy On Wheels. Our Hunger Prevention programs have played a crucial role in offering assistance to numerous individuals, including single mothers, senior citizens, refugee families, the homeless, and other members of the local community.
